Culture? Environment? It Is ALL Subject To Change!

changeCulture and The Change Within…

Lately I have been feeling the pressure to change the culture. Not just the culture of my community but the culture of the church.  There is a lot out there about the culture and what we “need” to do but my thinking is along the following lines.

From Merriam’s a particular definition set. In bold I am hitting some key words.

a :  the integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations

b :  the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group; also :  the characteristic features of everyday existence (as diversions or a way of life} shared by people in a place or time <popular culture> <southern culture>

c :  the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization <a corporate culture focused on the bottom line>

d :  the set of values, conventions, or social practices associated with a particular field, activity, or societal characteristic <studying the effect of computers on print culture>So there is a set of definitions.

The culture is subject to change. Culture is something you get to change. Change is something you get to culture. (There is a way to honor history and still move ahead.) Being part of the culture is being part of the change.

Let’s take a moment with some of those defining words

  • Belief-what you believe is what you become. Culture is what you make it. Let it be here on earth as it is in heaven.
  • Transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations-Psalm 145:4 We must build a foundation desirable to a coming people. I recognize we are the generation, but our generation is constantly being “added” to.
  • Everyday existence-our everday life is important to our future and our destiny. Be a culture changer. A now God is in the now day for a now people.
  • Shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices-it is time we walk in what Jesus has called us to.

Let’s put them together.

TheUnchurchables1Our Belief is Transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations in our Everyday existence with Shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices.

That alone will change the culture. It is Christ in us the hope of Glory that empowers us to change the culture we live in.

Today is that day!
