Practice, Purpose & Beauty

2015-09-05 12.52.11“Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty”

How many times have I seen that? Thought about it? I understand what folks are saying but it leaves so much up to happenstance. Serendipity. (Many years ago I taught on a response to that from the side of a believer, one empowered by grace and infused with love.)

I guess I am not really like that. Let me be clear, I do believe in the spontaneity of the Father and all that encapsulates. But remember it is only spontaneous in our lives. Not His. You can count on the purposes of God never waning or slipping back.

So, long before a “random act” might be practiced, one would have had to already prepare his or her heart, that if opportunity were to arise, “I am ready”. Comparatively if you go looking for someone to practice a random act, it is not really random any more…

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Hmmm… Not much randomness. A plan. An establishment. Both founded in purpose.

And when we read Jeremiah 29:11 (For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.) we see there is a power assigned to our lives with purpose.

It is akin to “que ser, sera” or “what will be will be”. Folks, like it or not we are not some cosmic plasmoid floating about in space, seeking a place to land and take up residence. We have been put here with a purpose. (And not left wanting. Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.)

We are people of purpose. I submit to you it is high time to discover that purpose, that plan and walk in it. For we are not a random accident in the middle of a “periodic table” defined only by time and timing. In fact we can be seen “for such a time as this”.

“Senseless acts of beauty”. What does that even mean? For the Lord created with broad strokes and defining brushes the heavens and the earth. The Creator created. And you my friends have been created “in His image”. You are His carbon copy, His look alike, His child. And within you lies beauty and the creative gene of the Creator. Resident is His purpose.

What would a “senseless act of beauty” even look like for to someone it made sense? To someone it was permeated with purpose. I am not sure there is a “senseless” act of beauty for beauty itself will touch senses, stir up emotion.

How about as believers we begin to recognize purpose? Our purpose and His purpose. Allowing it to be imposed upon our life and responded to out of our being. Pointed in life for kindness. (Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32)Looking for places to drop kindness and establish beachheads of mercy.(To do that you will release the love of the Father.)

Perhaps today we practice purpose-full acts of kindness and sense-filled acts of beauty.

That sounds like God.
