The Way Of An Eagle

leejohndrowteamYesterday I had the opportunity to take a canoe ride with my daughter Amy. A father daughter time. She jokingly said, “do I have to paddle” and I said “no”.

At first she was afraid as the canoe made noise, shuddering with each paddle stroke and the wind picking up as we got into open waters. But soon she relaxed and we were talking. We talked about business and family, but then I saw an eagle soaring in the winds.

I said “look at the eagle”. He is not working hard. He is riding currents, gaining air in updrafts, flapping only to change direction. That is how God wants you to be. To live effortless. To only go where the winds of His Spirit blow. To not labor. To only move to change direction or to catch something.”

Proverbs 30:19 The way of an eagle in the sky, The way of a serpent on a rock, The way of a ship in the middle of the sea, And the way of a man with a maid

We watched this eagle for precious moments.

“Dad, do you want me to paddle?”

“No. I want you to understand that place of rest. Where your Father gets you to where you need to go. To embrace the place of provision and care.”

This is a choice we all come to. Do I trust the Father? Will I understand my place in Him? Will I labor to enter His rest?

What we do, He will not. What we don’t, He will.

Some of you will question the thinking with “but, but , but…”

That’s okay.
