We Are Not Puppets

blue laserLast night as my wife and I were driving home, I saw amazing “blue lasers” come out of the sky. At first I thought it might be reflections in the air from a police car and its blue lights. But clearly they were directional blue as if shot from lasers.

I shared with my wife.

My thought at the time was simple.God is in us, rather than external for us, as believers because were He to connect from the outside, the lines of communications would get tangled up. Much like the strings of marionettes as the puppets move around. “Bad Marionettes” I said.

She laughed it off, made a Facebook post about the “weirdness” continues.

But when I awoke this morning, I had had a dream about freedom. God came into us to provide us with the opportunity to hear for ourselves. Not a voice of the external, but an internal voice that is always “on” for us. To be free. No lines of connection to tangle or the need to find someone to hear God for us.

Perhaps the very reason we see some of the difficulties in the church and its people is because we get “caught” up in an effort to reach a distant God. Is God external? Of course. He is in us and we are in Him. In Christ are all things.

But God is not a “puppet master” in our lives. He is not pulling the strings. He may allow for events to change our pathways or circumstances to dictate change but He is not the orchestrator of pain or evil or temptations.

As cool as it was to see the blue lasers, I am more excited in His occupation of my being. Coming into my life and changing me. Taking habitation and moving me towards His expression through me. I am not a puppet or a marionette, but a person He determined purpose for, before the foundations of the earth.

Today there is an “inside” voice that is speaking with trust in you.
