Whole Lotta Shaking’ Going On

"Use me!"
“Use me!”

When Elvis Presley sang about being “all shook up” he was talking about love. But here so many years later there are people walking about who are all shook up, as well… And it is about love. His love for us!

The declaration of “your kingdom come, your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven” is an invitation for shaking. An invitation to God to appear. To emerge through His people. The earth at one point had fallen under the kingship of evil. It is being shaken. Exactly what can be shaken? Empires, governments, monarchies, banks, businesses, churches, families, individuals and anything else available!

All is subject to shaking.

Many years ago we found it fun to shake up carbonated beverages and let them spray. What was inside was “all shook up” and was now exploding onto whatever was in its way. Everything on the inside coming out!

I had a dream last night where processes and ways of doing things were being circumvented. Shaken. Shook up. As I wandered about many were in a state of unbelief and wonderment. “Why is  this happening” they asked. Each time they had had an encounter with God and tried to keep it going “long after” He had moved on.

Many years ago my wife and I stayed in a bed & breakfast. Early that morning as the sun light streamed though our windows, the house began to shake. Earthquake? As I watched the pitcher and bowl slide across the dresser, I was very concerned. We were on the third floor. Windows rattled and everything was in motion. Later I found my thoughts of an earthquake to be true. Things were shaking and then there was a settling.

I sense God is unraveling some of our processes and patterns in an effort to get us in position for where He desires us to be. Allowing shaking to come.  (You may want to read a couple of articles I wrote on this. One is “God’s Purpose And You” and “Heavenly Alignment“.)

Now clearly shaking is not fun. Losing your reliance on a system may be disheartening. Imagine if you will, if your GPS no longer functioned. Or your cell phone stopped working. What about the internet going down? Clearly we develop places of dependency that God would like to move us from. To get us away, so that we might be reliant on Him.

Many worry about the economy and its impact. But we were told to “come, you have no money”. Food shortages? To the best of my knowledge the “ovens of heaven” were never closed and manna and the multiplication of food are still a principle working of the kingdom.

Clearly this shaking is intended to shift our thinking to Him. The shaking to establish fresh and new understanding of God. Jerry Lee Lewis sang about “A whole lotta shakin’ going on”. I think we have just begun to see the tip of the iceberg.

What we attempt to hold onto may well be shaken or perhaps not be needed anymore. I feel badly for those going through this time of shaking to the extent it disrupts patterns and plans, but there is a further knowledge that there will be greater gold coming forth. A stronger reliance on God and not on man.

As the earthquake shook the bed & breakfast, I felt helpless. Unsettled. And yet, I felt peace, because God was there.

Some of you are going through great times of trial. Maybe you are attempting to hold on tightly. I learned the hard way many, many years ago that if I am urgently attempting to hold on it is sapping my energy, removing my peace and causing fear to rise up. My encouragement is you visit with the Lord and find out His thinking, His thoughts. Knowing full well He has not left you nor forsaken you.

In this hour He is working to establish peace and peace that surpasses understanding. I see changes, especially geographic ones for many in this hour. Changes in ministry and work.

Granted all that can be shaken will be but there is great hope in knowing He will bring you through.
