I’ll Stop The World… No More Franticity!

What if...
What if…

I fully understand that the world is carried on in “microseconds’ when it comes to information. As I read the news, I see people are clamoring for instant access to “what is going on” in the world about them. This morning as I read a few articles, I glanced at one that brought chills.

Too much access too fast. Many people aren’t making wise choices to begin with and loaded with a lot of “unvetted” information, even less. Too many are jumping “on the bus” without knowing where it is going to…

I get the desire for things to be “faster”. My first real endeavor with computers in my internet business involved speeds of 14.4k. When we went to 28.8 we were really “surfing”! (I used to set the timers on my computer so they would turn on at 4AM to begin downloading the information I would need for the day when my team showed up.)

But sometimes too much is simply too much.

I stopped really being part of the “Facebook” world a week or so ago. If I have a moment, I will go in and glance, but for the most part, I am done. Much of it is due to my own schedule these days and what is going on about me.

Anything that causes me to move to “urgency” mode is not good and certainly not God. “Enter my rest” He says. Is He then going to turn around and create an atmosphere of franticity (Yep-made it up.)and see how we do?

Too many are looking at the world about and wanting to get involved. Amen! I agree. BUT-with a caveat. Not because we “have” to but because we can. And NOT with urgent agendas. I am not going to start spinning because the world is going faster or the information is increasing. I serve the God who gave Joshua the ability to stop the world. (So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. Joshua 10:13) I am refusing to participate.

In the interest of full disclosure I had a client this week with a need. A sizable need. For four hours I “pushed”. While walking with my son, I said, “I can not even remember” who I am supposed to call” as the flurry of emails and phone calls increased. I let urgency dictate my day for that period. I paid dearly for it. I vowed “never again”.

With regard to the afore mentioned article, what I am seeing is too many “picking sides” all the while alienating others. I am cool with convictions. Not so cool with it if you are polarizing because you can not have a real conversation with another because of opposing sides.

I am watching believers post and post without any regard for the outcome. If we do not put the brakes on, who will?

I learned my Bible in King James. 2 Timothy 1:7 ALWAYS said this, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  But if you read it in just about any other translation you will see that it says “discipline” or self control. “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” You have to allow God to work through you to “control” yourself.

My concern as I read the article on Ferguson is too much, too soon with may operating with the information that fits their paradigm or their opinion.

It is time for believers to believe God! And allow God to be God in their lives. Not political parties or emotional leanings. Everyone is clamoring for “full disclosure” yet they do not know what to do with it. I am going to say this as Proverbs 25:28  does“Like a city that is broken into and without walls Is a man who has no control over his spirit.” If you are struggling to keep your own emotions and life in check, stay away fro things you have no power over. I speak from experience. It is easy to form an opinion or want to help, but until our own life is on the onramp, let’s stay out of it.

I think what if the city where I live “blew” up over an incident.

It is time for people of faith to begin to pray and devote themselves to truth and not opinion. Lead by example and not by Facebook. Our nation, our world and our community needs you to extend your hands of mercy and grace and pray. When the God who is God can download a strategy in a nanosecond, who needs faster? Who needs more? When the God who brought Philip to a revival in a flash, never worry about missing out!

It is time to invest in our communities with our prayers, our wisdom, our faith and our love!

I’ll stop the world and melt with you
(Let’s stop the world)
You’ve seen the difference and
It’s getting better all the time
There’s nothing you and I won’t do
(Let’s stop the world)

I’ll stop the world and melt with you
The future’s open wide
(The future’s open wide)
The future’s open wide
