A lot of my friends need a Plan B. Members of my family could use a Plan B. Few people adhere to plan A with the ferocity of a Tim Tebow, who regardless of what has been offered is planning on living out his plan A of being a quarterback in the NFL. But I would bet you that Tim Tebow in fact, has a plan B building in his life. I would imagine he has a form or stream of income that is being created. A career after football, perhaps.
A plan B does not mean you give up on plan A. It is simply an option, or a fallback position or something that gives you great joy.God does not have a plan B. Despite many trying to figure out the alternatives, God in fact has one plan. The church. The victorious church. It was His plan from before time and it has not changed.
But people while they are growing up in the expression of Christ He has created them to be, may need a plan B. For instance, my plan A is to get all my work done. My work is often tedious. I build in plan B’s or daily mini-vacations or treats to myself.
Here was one. I had my eyes set on getting the grandkids away this summer. Frankly because of the house issues and such, it was not happening. The loss of the house and the finances attached to the transition were harsh. But this weekend I was able to get them out of the house early and head to Lake George. I love the Adirondacks, Lake George and all the history tied to it. The fact that it turned out to be the National Auto Show weekend did not hurt, but it was not planned.
Plan B’s give you the sense of life will not always be this way. I will not live in this apartment for ever or drive this car forever. My difficult job is not always going to be.
The caveat is Plan B is simply that. A plan. Something for you to work towards perhaps. Something to release the pressure of a difficult season, job or journey.
If you do not have a Plan B know that it might be an option. Paul could not get to Asia Minor. Macedonia became his plan B. At some point he did get to Asia, Tim Tebow is rejecting offers from the CFL and positions that are not quarterbacking. Sometimes your Plan B allows you to be more firm, more rigid in your negotiations and decision making.
Plan B is more than an alternative or option. It may in fact be God.
