Preparations Of A Hero

leejohndrowteamSo often in life we see an event and a hero emerges. Perhaps it is a fireman or a police officer who does something heroic in the line of duty. Maybe it is a local man or woman (Or perhaps a child.)who stands out in the forefront with a rescue or the saving of someone.

And while events act as signposts in time, changes in lives and are even something to be celebrated, it is rare the event that makes the man or woman. With few exceptions there is something that prepared them for the situation. Maybe not “that” situation. But somewhere training, understanding, character and personal walk entered into the situation.

Preparation is one of those words that often causes the rolling of eyes and sentences like “I get it”. When in fact they may “get it” but they choose all the other choices.

Want to be healthy? Running to McDonalds every day is not a healthy way. Want to lose weight? You may have to prep for it. Become an engineer or baseball player? Some things may have to change and other things undertaken.

It is the same in the church. There is a preparation for the things to come. For things to change. Some are easy to lay hold of. Study God and His word. Pray, worship and love. Some are not so easy. The expression of His way. Or the application of faith. (Accomplished by moving “as if”.)

Just like the world outside of the church, there are heroes of faith. Men and women who put aside fear, exemplify love, carry out mercy and walk in grace. BUT…without knowledge of Him and His word where do they come from? Sometimes our walk with God is simple but not easy. Requiring of us what might not be “required” of others.

The world needs some heroes. We need men and women of integrity and faith. Folks who often have “gone through” something to get to some place. Not held back by their past they move daily towards the destiny laid before them.

Can I encourage you to make the preparations of being a hero? Learn that every day is an opportunity and every day can count. Become a hero. Maybe today you are a hero to a little old lady or man. Or the hero to a child who just experienced a loss.

Heroic deeds are but markers in a series of events called life. Today recognize there is something you can do about tomorrow. I am not suggesting you live in the future, but am encouraging you to value today for the good of tomorrow.
