To Fix Or Not To Fix

old-car1Today they will come and repair our stove. It shorted out the other day while cooking. I will need to get the car checked out after Tina was tail ended by another driver. (She is okay, has pain in her neck, shoulders and head.) The car runs and by looking at it you might not suspect the degree of damage it incurred. Other things need to be fixed.

Repairs-fixes-what do we do?Because of my age and how I grew up, when I see the disposability of toys, vehicles, furniture, etc., it is somewhat disturbing. “Mom will get us another one.” What? “Go find the one you lost” or “the one you broke is not being replaced because you hit your sister with it.” Our microwave mentality, immediate gratification mode, causes us not to want to wait or hold out or save up.

Sometimes it is better to just start all over or replace something. (Let me clearly say I am not talking about marriage versus divorce, or physician assisted suicide!) Sometimes something is so worn out that it is not reparable. (I would have clothes like that but Tina keeps throwing them out!) And not everything is fixable.

I was a “want it all now” person. I was willing to work for it, but as the toys got bigger so did my debt. I learned the hard way that “you can’t always get what you want” was in fact a reality on some levels.

For many a year I have said the “grass is not greener on the other side,”  but have encouraged people to “take care of their own lawn.” Personal responsibility is important. We have children bandied about because parents can not work together(or work at all!) or have added people to their list of disposable items.

Thank goodness that God does not make junk and as an investor in our lives, He never gives up, nor stops. He is not going to dispose of us or get rid of us.

And that is good news!
