A Microphone, A Basket & An Old School August 19th 2013

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

Yesterday my wife came to me during our fellowship service and she had seen three items. She saw a woven basket, a microphone and an old school. Before she came over to me she looked up the words “old school” and she found that part of the descriptive is “form lacking substance.”

Let me start with the old school. We do not need more of the same. The “same” may have had value, may have had a season of awesomeness, but the idea that something without substance will carry us forward is not correct.

The other day a friend said “we do not need a youth stagnant, but we need a youth movement.”

There needs to be substance that has “attraction.” A song might have had a season. A story might have had relevance. Dressing it up. Speeding it up. None of those things necessarily will make it better. True substance or substance in season carries an intrinsic value.

Let’s jump to the basket for a moment. A woven basket. It is a basket that has been intertwined with the reeds or the material that provides shape, form, texture and the ability to carry. Hen she said it I knew she was talking about people. Not all people. Some people will need to be “carried” for a season. Others who have been strengthened, matured in their walk with the Lord are woven in providing safety for the carrying of others.

The fact that it is a basket and not a barrel or a vat, a pool or a lack speaks to me of the intimacy God is setting forth in His people.

The microphone is interesting as well as it depicts the vessel or the mouthpiece through which something is shared. Ironically a mouthpiece or microphone can receive what is being said, but does not have the power to “amplify” or bring value and increase to the message. I am convinced of the reliance on the basket and the people to carry forth the message.

Back to the school. We have taken a lot of things from the past and made effort to dress them up. Every revival from the past has had a season and value added to lives. But we may never be able to recreate a movement or revival and frankly why would we? Why not seek the freshness of the “manna from heaven” in this season. Each day receiving and embracing the freshness of heaven, the Father and His goodness.

No more old school, but a fresh infilling of the Father’s goodness. A desire in our hearts to minister mercy and grace and shake the nations.
