In 1995 I started my first internet company. Internet? Who would have thought? Technological progress at speeds previously before not thought of. Every time you turned around there was a new start-up. Deals were made on napkins in diners and restaurants. Sure the internet had been around some 40 plus years (Thank you Al Gore…)and computers could now fit on your desk instead of taking up your whole bedroom. Each week I would stand before rooms of business people, explaining to them how something they had not heard of, could not see, would make their business better.

We were marketing the unknown. A web page was $300 and more. (Not a site-a page.) Hosting was $60-$100 per domain. And the speeds of the internet? Stellar! (My picture in the top of this page would take 6-10 seconds to appear!)

Why bring this up? Because each and every day it is my hearts desire to see His kingdom come and for people to hear from God.

Sometimes it “feels” like I am bringing some previously misunderstood technology to the table. I get it. My family and friends can tell you, I am a concept kind of person. Relational. When it comes to technology, my computer turning on has the potential to be a challenge some days. I know there are people that want to hear from God. But maybe they think there are too many rules. Too much to do. Too much to change.

But God is on the look for you.

In those fast and crazy days of the early internet, there was no Google, ebay or Amazon. Those were thoughts, not yet cooked up in minds and placed on napkins with investors. (But many had those thoughts. Our company started an auction site in 1997-it required way too much technology at the time. We sold products online in 1996. One of our first companies to come on board was a pie company. They wanted a “steaming” apple pie. Folks-video did not exist in those days. There was no Youtube. We made images that shook, shimmered and crawled!)

Imagination! One of the creative forces of God found in man that releases His goodness into the earth. Into the atmosphere. Into lives here and now.

We are in truly what must be the most amazing of times in the history of man. And you are here. Right now. God did not bring you into the earth to not provide you with a destiny. Empower you to succeed and be victorious. He is here.

Sometimes I feel like I am “selling the internet”. “I can’t see Him. I don’t know Him. Where does the power come from? If I do this what will be the result?” Folks, we have debunked the fear of technology. (Yes, I know there are some hold outs on Windows 97, 14.4 modem speed and living underground in a bunker in Montana somewhere.) It is not our inability to do something with what we have so much as it is our fear to do something. And now. Let us begin to reveal God.

In this stage of my life most of what I do is remind people who God made them to be, why, and how they can enjoy their relationship. Unlike the internet God is not subject to viruses, malware and power shortages. If anything, His DNA He has placed in you at the time of your new birth is resistant to disease, sin and never lacks power.

Unfortunately Googling God will not reveal His character or His depth of love for you. He is seeking relationship with you. You are His desire. In this amazing time of miraculous technology it still requires a change of the mind and a desire of the heart on your side as well to engage with God.

This is an amazing era. The digital world is simply crazy in its function and fascination. But it compares nothing to the downloads of heaven that are occurring in this day and in this season. Nearly every conversation I have these days, I end up with someone saying “that is what is in my heart”. “God has been speaking that to me.” No internet! Just God!

Unlike technology, with God there are no “blue screens of death, spinning wheels(Unless you count Ezekiel!) or 404 missing pages”! You get God. All of Him. Unadulterated. Without smoke. Without mirrors.

This was actually kind of fun to write. Maybe you don’t remember Magellan, Webcrawler or Alta Vista. Maybe you always had a cell phone. Despite my nostalgic little tour, I have been feeling all morning that God wants to make a connection with you. (How many remember the annoying clicks, whirs and buzzes of your new modem in the 90’s? Follow this link to hear what my family heard each day as I began my day.)He is trying to linkup with you for the sake of revealing Himself to you. To show you the future. To take you on a trip. To cause you to explore the depths of His love and kindness.

Some of you are being drawn to a place of remembering the “good times”. Perhaps there is a tear on your cheek or a weightiness in your chest. Yes-He is talking to you. Right here and right now. Don’t walk away and brush aside the feeling. Do not feel shame or guilt. (Oh, my hair is such a mess!) Let Him love you back into place. Let Him remove the fear, ease the pain, heal the hurt.

And folks-you can’t find that on the web…anywhere!
