Yesterday I had a meeting and the topic that came out of it was a “dream center.” The day before someone said “your life is predicated on dreams. You ought to consider a dream center.” So what about dreams?
While working on the manual for prophetic workshops I find I devote a lot prophecy changing a life.
A number of years ago I was invited to a meeting. I was asked to minister to youth. Imagine my surprise to arrive and find out they were “heavy metal” followers not with Jesus. I found that out after the meeting but I was pretty sure! An outreach. The owners of the club asked me to step right on up in the midst of their play “because they will never stop playing if you don’t.” There were over 80 of these young people. Whatever message I had planned went right out the window because I was not aware of what I was “walking into.” So I stepped up and they respectfully stopped. As I went to “minister” I broke open my life before Jesus. And then the powerful spirit of prophecy was released. For the next few hours I prophesied over them. God never let me down and the messages flowed. Destiny, treasure, the future. In those days I had my eyes closed a lot so I would not read or get a “tell” and my wife walked with me making sure my hand was on a shoulder.
All I heard was low key talking, crying and the “smell” of tears and God.
When I was done, the room was quiet. I thought “well, I missed it and I can go home.” But what happened was a cheer rose and laughter came forth.
We left a while later and I told my wife on the 2 hour drive how amazed I was and “glad” God showed up.
Many of my friends thought I was nuts. “Why would you prophesy over unbelievers? Why would you hang out with them?” The treasure is the same. It just needs to be called forth. Whether in a restaurant or at a convenience store.
People change in the light of prophecy.
Prophecy can come in all shapes or forms. The first usage of the word dream was Abimilech receiving from the Lord “you are a dead man” because he had taken Abram’s wife. He awoke realized his problem and resolved it.
For too long we tried to get people on the page of “confirming” what the person knows. I guess God never wired me that way, because too often, I was always giving words that were contrary.
A leadership meeting in a mansion on a hill. A young pastor and his wife were experiencing things. People were asked to prophesy. As people went around the room, the room was flowing with the buzz of “yes, you can make it. Press in. Push on.” My “dad” came to me…
“I see a furnace in the basement. It has run effectively but the fuel supply has been cut off. The Lord is taking this furnace out and replacing it. The ‘home owners’ are making a change. But what I see is where the furnace is going to is a slow trickle of fuel is going to start moving and once again the furnace will produce.”
The room went quiet. No one laughed. One week later there church pulled the plug on them. They had to move out of New England. Their family had a season of quiet to regroup from all the pain they incurred and ministry began again in a healthy productive way.
Prophecy changes things including tracks, walks and callings. (Perhaps I see the need to deconstruct to build correctly sometimes. Jeremiah 1:10)
I was in a meeting where other leaders were speaking and my turn was coming up. While waiting a young leader came up to me and the Lord released words over him. The crux was “his work here would pale in comparison to His work on foreign soils.” His work in the US slowed to a crawl and his work in Africa brought the finance and blessing he needed. 8 years later I saw him again. He told me the word was true and had changed his life.
Dreams are much the same way. They invade life while often the recipient has no say. Dreams are invasive. They are like radio versus a newspaper. A newspaper you can put down, but radio advertising is invasive (And designed to be so.) knowing your choices are change the station or hang in there while. God has you!
Pilate’s wife had a dream about Jesus. A warning. Joseph had warning dreams. I have personally had dreams of warning, confirmation and translation.
But now I sense God is putting something new on the plate.
What are your dreams? Not just your dreams at night but the ones you carry during the day. Dreams are important. They often provide the connection to realms and places you do not see during the day. (Sometimes you have to close your eyes and listen.)
If I see anything about prophecy and dreams in the current days it is these two things.
- Chalking it up to “just words” and not wielding it or using it. The Bible talks about despising words. 1 Thessalonians 5:20
- What do we do with it? I think prophetic people ought to be careful in three areas.
A-that we toss a word because we can with no strategy.
B-We are equally concerned with directive speech.
C-We are aware of timing.
Let me encourage you to dream. To evaluate. What are your “fantasies from the Father”? What has He sown into you?
Seek out wise men and women as you go forward, onward and upward.
