When In Rome Do As The Romans Do – When In Heaven…

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

At 3AM I heard this statement, “When in Rome do as the Romans do. When in heaven do as the heavenly do.” Wow! Where are you seated? And even as I say it out loud, I wonder is there something to “do as the heavenly dew.”

I am a word person. Not just from a biblical or faith perspective, but from a “what does it mean” perspective. Words have meaning and they have power. It is not about semantics (Now there is a Greek word. It deals with understanding based on historical or psychological emphasis.) but more importantly, the reality, getting the full flavor out of a word or it’s understanding.

For instance my wife wrote me about a one sided grater. But I saw it prophetically as “one side is greater.” So homonyms and synonyms can start to play into it.

Here are two I often see in the Bible but listen for how people use or say it.

Romans 12:10 says in the KJV, “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;” Many will change that word from prefer to defer. But preferring has to do with honoring or giving preference. That is hugely difference than “defer” which means to “humbly submit to one” or to put off. The idea of “putting off actually can suggest, “this is your turn. Mine will come.” The flavor of the actual scripture though bless, honor, show off, eagerly honor and more. I may defer to you out of respect but that is different.

The same often happens in John 8:32 where staying in the word will bring you truth and the truth will set you free.  But in John 8:36 it is the Son who makes you free. Are they the same? Two contexts. But Jesus and His death MADE you free. But it is truth that SETS you free. The word “set” here is to cause or assume a condition. But being made you are in that condition.

If you do not see yourself as seated in high places, seated at the right hand of the throne of God your perspective is skewed. What you may see as a “on sided grater” may be seen by another as “one side is greater” from a prophetic or heavenly perspective. Some might say “that is semantics.” I think not. I recognize that etymology is important, but revelation coupled with truth is greater I believe.

So at 3AM I began to seek God about heavenly perspective. I can think from here what heaven looks like. I can read in the scriptures descriptions and appearance. I can see from an earthly perspective it’s greatness. I can sense with sight and sound, but I want more.

Honestly, I woke up not feeling well. My way of dealing was to talk to God. “God, I want to go visit my friend, T___. Will you take me?” I want to be transported to his living room and pray for him. “God, I want to walk in heaven. It has been a while. Show me what is new (It is all new.) and who is here to visit with. This is my home.” I wanted God to give me the full experience, today and always in my life. I want mementos of my travels.

Why is it so hard to suggest we live as the heavenly being we are? Higher than angels? (Hebrews 1) If He is in us and we in Him. Where do they say they come to live? John 14:23 Is that not “heaven in our heart?”

Well if in Rome we do as the Romans do, what do the heavenly do? I think it is time to evaluate and understand some of it. What do the heavenly do?

  • Could I not transport or travel anywhere?
  • Visit not just the nations but far off places?
  • Never be sick
  • Never die
  • Change every situation
  • Take dominion (Did God ever say no more dominion taking?)
  • Be a peace maker(I am not talking peace keeper-not semantics-huge difference!)
  • Rule the nations

A return to the garden is not even close to what we can experience in this life, in this now.

When in heaven-do as the heavenly do.
