Revealing The Sons

rainstorm1For me, there are what I can only call core values in my life that direct me and pull me ahead. Some of those are related to family, friends and the goodness of God. From core values, a thought process or belief system begins to be brought forth.

Today I want to share two of those. They are tightly tied together for me. One is that the scripture that says “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God”.  The other is that “all of creation is anxiously awaiting the revealing of the mature sons of God to arise.” Who are they???

There is a groaning in the earth for the arrival!

I sat here this weekend as we approached Thanksgiving. I had an eggnog in hand, a Christmas concert playing and I was thinking of the times of expectation I had as a child for family to arrive. For the season to bring in Santa Claus. I was excited. I was anxious with anticipation! As I watched one of my grandchildren have the same expectation, I thought “this is it!” To anticipate the arrival of the sons of God! I’m so excited! I get Santa Claus is over and done with, but here is something to see in anticipation. Something powerful that will make our Christmas pale in comparison.

I look at all the looting and shooting, the protests and craziness, I am reminded of the fact that “blessed are the peacemakers”. Ferguson-you have met your match. Cleveland-peace is on the way. Washington DC-there is a new sheriff in town. The people of God who pick up this understanding will change the world.

One of the attributes of God is PEACE. I am not talking peace as the world understands, where one just stops, as if in waiting for the world to stop spinning. I am talking about once there was darkness and now there is light. Once there was war and the powers to be have STOPPED.

Let me make this personal. A lot of you may be avoiding situations, family or friends because you just can’t take it anymore. But, you have noticed it does not leave your mind. That is because it is you who has to establish the peace. First in your mind and in your life. So, you made a mistake. Peace has a way of quelling the voices of doubt, fear and accusation. Establish peace. It is the beach head. Take it. Own it.

We can not establish peace without an understanding of peace. God is peace and He has bestowed on you and I the peace that rises up in the midst of chaos and drama and says “enough”. The world has drama and craziness. The church does not need to. Stop the anxiety and change the world!
