Plan B – Growing An Alternative Perhaps

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

A lot of my friends need a Plan B. Members of my family could use a Plan B. Few people adhere to plan A with the ferocity of a Tim Tebow, who regardless of what has been offered is planning on living out his plan A of being a quarterback in the NFL. But I would bet you that Tim Tebow in fact, has a plan B building in his life. I would imagine he has a  form or stream of income that is being created. A career after football, perhaps.

A plan B does not mean you give up on plan A. It is simply an option, or a fallback position or something that gives you great joy. Continue reading Plan B – Growing An Alternative Perhaps

By What Every Joint Supplies –

jointI love that scripture. In 2001 I had the words “by what every joint supplies…”(Ephesians 4:16) put on the back of my motorcycle. Many doors have been opened over this. To the world it speaks of joints and pot. To believers it revealed my thoughts about touching community and people. Lately it is taking on a life of it’s own.

Over the last few weeks I have been helping a friend on her website. It is a beauty site. My friend is anti-airbrushing ads and pictures, the “real deal” and “let’s look our best, ladies!” She also battles an unusual illness. I pray for her a lot.

I often see similarities in real life mirrored in prophetic life. Or vice versa.

The emerging church is a lot like my friend and her business. As the church we have an idea or mandate that we are to carry the gospel forward into all the world. This is much like the use of her site. It is the broadcasting or the publishing of His goodness. In her case, she is reaching women. Lots of them.

My friend is trying to remove the falseness and error of fake beauty. Like that, Jesus comes into our life to affirm that which He has sown, that we might not get caught up in that which is error or falseness.

Her desire is to be the real deal. Jesus comes alongside and His nature makes us beautiful. We are made the real deal.

Anyone can look their best. Jesus believes that as well. He knew us before the foundations of the earth.

And like my friend, we often see there is a battle to be who God called you or I to be.

My friend has an illness that affects her with pain. It begins in a joint. Jesus wants to heal her. The church has an enemy that would like to injure or cause pain. It injures a joint and affects tissues and nerves. Why? Because it is the place of supply! Ephesians 4:16

I had a dream on abundance the other night. And the Lord showed me this morning that Ephesians 4:11-16 is important to the process. To the coming supply! Not walking about in the “futility of our minds.” Ephesians 4:17

There is a supply that is available. It is clear we must tap into it.

My favorite science was biology. Anyone that knew me knew I wanted to be a doctor. (Even later in life a doctor friend was trying to get me to look to it.) Long before I was a follower of Christ I was intrigued by the body and its makeup.

A joint in the human body is a place of contact between two bones. It is a place of changing direction. In this joint there is a secretion of fluid (Synovial fluid from the Latin word for egg. You should be getting excited right about now!) The secretion of this fluid provides for a reduction of friction, shock absorption and nutrient and waste transport. It is also a place of many nerves (A nerve center – Hilton’s Law says “the nerves supplying the muscles extending directly across and acting at a given joint also innervate the joint”.)

The joint is:

  • A nerve center, reading the mail from limb to brain.
  • A supply of nutrients bringing nourishment.
  • A supply of lubricant-removing friction.
  • A supply of buffering or anti-shock system.
  • A place of changing direction and purpose.

A place of supply. Let the arising of the joints come forth. Let the joints arise to their true purpose. For equipping. For structure. That the ligaments would hold fast and remain joined.

Like my friend the church is coming into a place of full understanding and supply.

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

I opened my email this morning and had a surprise letter. Because it had been years since I had heard from this person, I thought perhaps it was spam. It was not.

The content of that letter has led me to this.

Maybe it is because of a different culture I grew up in or I see things differently (That could be a real possibility!) but I struggle when I see the “new” person in the room and cannot get to them. Not because of a “notch” on a spiritual belt I am making but because I want people to taste the Jesus I know. The reality of church fellowship is that more than 80% of “new” people show up in a church assembly because you invite them. And they say that the average person needs 6 contacts within 2 months to stay or feel welcome. (Interesting that a relationship will allow a person to overcome a style or a culture and stay.) The Gift Of Gifts -Seeing Where He wants You

I am not sure what others pray for, dream about or even think about. I know just praying opens doors for me in people’s lives, shows me things about them that I never thought about and absolutely wow’s me.

Last night I had a number of dreams and I will share part of one that opened my eyes to the goodness of God in a further way in a moment.

First things first! God wants to pour His extravagance out on you today. Open your hands! Open your mouths! He has good things for you. In the dream where I was He let us give a million pounds of food to one person! God is everywhere, but He has seasons of moving us! Watch. It is confirmed by others what He is doing.

THINK ABOUT THAT! A MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD! TO ONE PERSON! Continue reading The Gift Of Gifts -Seeing Where He wants You

Overlapping Freedoms – Liberty, Independence & Honor

3circlesWhen your freedom overlaps my freedom, honor is the ONLY solution. (How much freedom can fit in the room?)

Because I feel we have much to learn in the area of how great our freedom is we will need to learn how great the need is to “protect and serve with honor.” We must protect our freedom and never return to the traditions of men that bind and control. And yet to take our liberty and wield it with disregard for those about us creates another set of problems. Continue reading Overlapping Freedoms – Liberty, Independence & Honor

A Labor Day Thought September 2013

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

Ever since I was a child, the idea of being creative, building things and selling them has been in my head. As a child I worked on a neighbor’s small farm for money. I picked, cleaned, fed and more. From his garden I would buy vegetables, seeds and the like that I could resell. I learned to make cutting boards and boxes in my dad’s workshop that I sold. I started a lawn mowing “business’ that paid me $5 for the average lawn. (Gas was 25 cents!) When I got too many, my brothers helped out and got paid. I started delivering newspapers for 2 hours a day and got paid $2. Shortly after that I went to work in a garage pumping gas at 10 years old. I loved it. The owner let me work on Saturdays and gave me a split from the tire changes and oil changes with him. Good for him –- good for me! Continue reading A Labor Day Thought September 2013

What Is Difficult Today May Be Harder Tomorrow- Don’t Aim For That!

Just a thought?
Just a thought?

I am kind of a black and white guy. And it is exacerbated by the simple fact that I do not find filters helpful. They may make the person feel better that you are talking to but they tend to cloud the issue at hand. So often I am told I am simply “blunt.” (My attempt at filtering “hard things” makes me uncomfortable and probably does nothing to help the party I am speaking to!)

Lately I am seeing some painful things happen. Much of this is founded on a lack of understanding of grace. Selfishness and self-centeredness is the antithesis of grace. Grace causes you desire to move ahead touching others with the goodness you have received. Continue reading What Is Difficult Today May Be Harder Tomorrow- Don’t Aim For That!

Reminiscing IS Good For The Soul

Up early and doing a bit of reminiscing. The definition of reminiscing is the recollection of memories and past events. Yesterday I had the opportunity to do some reminiscing with a few young folks about how I actually “got here.” My pathway to Christianity was not easy on most levels. Immediately after taking on relationship with the Father, my life was overturned.  I was faced with relationship implosion, the loss of friends and business.

I would lie to you to tell you that there were not times where I was willing to walk away. I struggled with worth and value and things that were beyond my control. But deep inside the life of Jesus was emanating. Beating, beaming. Like a beacon on a hill I was drawn to the light each time and the correction of my compass was intact. How Do You Respond To The News?

Ghost Battleship - U.S.S. Texas (You may want to read up on this...)
Ghost Battleship – U.S.S. Texas (You may want to read up on this…)

How do I respond to the news?

That is a real question lately. And while some may respond with some of the following:

  • “I never watch it.”
  • “Who cares?”
  • “It frightens me.”
  • “You can’t believe anything they say.”

And wherever you fall on the measuring line that is okay. I do not mind watching news, as it gives me opportunity to reflect on how good God is and how big He is.  (Also to pray!) Some of my thinking was predicated by a friend’s post on Facebook the other day.  “It is impossible to be stressed out and grateful at the same time.” I recognize that everyone has “some” stress in their lives. The key is not getting stressed out over things. Or keep on adding to it.

Earlier this year I wrote a short book on changing our world by what we say and what we think. It is about taking the position of heaven and superimposing it over your world. (Matthew 6:10) When I think about “stress” I find that in most cases it is the value you put on a situation or circumstance. For instance one of my children does not like to speak in public though her job often necessitates it. I understand. I go through it. But I place higher value on the message God has given me to bring forth rather than my short time of uncomfortability. Continue reading How Do You Respond To The News?
