What is it we need in our lives to cause us to grow in to all that He believes for us in us?

I have been giving this a lot of thought. We are better than we think. We are more loving, more powerful and more loved than we know. We are better than that!

I find that I am saying this to a lot of people lately. “You are better than that.” Not just because of a “bad choice” but some of the “settling for choices” as well.

I had a vision this morning. Here is what I saw. A heart that had become calloused because it believed in people. People you loved and they let you down. So, gradually you let the pain come to a place where you no longer could take it. Your heart got scuffed. A life that seemed to have no value or future. You “checked” out. I get it. I have been there too. And you did something about it. But all the pain did not go away. All the hurt did not evaporate. So, you “cover” it a little, sometimes a lot. You are not going to let “people” hurt you.

Maybe you have come to the end of your rope. You “let” go. You thought “que sera sera!” You think God is not helping me, I can not help me, so I am giving up.

And the words I heard were these. “You are better than that.”

What does that mean? Let me show you.

You have settled for a relationship choice because you do not think you deserve better. Chosen a “career” path that does not provide for you. You often choose “pain over pleasure”. I get it. I have been there. Perhaps some bad choices. Been there. How you walk through this is the “you are better” moment. Don’t let your history deny you access to goodness. (I may say that more than once.)

You may have accepted the “this is the way it is”. The struggles with friends, families and relationships. You are better than that. What does that mean? You do not have to struggle. You can make better decisions for you and your life than you made for yourself in the past.

People love you and then they hurt you. You are better than that. Yes, people can hurt you. But people can change. I did. I woke up to the fact that I am “better than that”. I let God heal my heart, my history and I threw away the “rear view” mirror in my life. You can too. Why? Because you are better than your history might show or offer up.

Because people can change, so can you. You are not a pauper but you are king (queen) and a priest! You are a mom or dad who can change things. Why? Because you are better than that.

“But Lee, look at my life.” I get it. But you are better than that. Why? Because I believe in you. Because God believes in you. I want you to know that.

But, know that sometimes circumstances are bigger than our ability. I have been there and I” lost”. But I gained friends who love me and support me. Sometimes being “better than that” is knowing what limits you have and how to win.

You are “little” in so many areas. You hurt, you cry, you get afraid.

But I am here to tell you, your history has no hold because His story is about gold. When I say to someone “you are better than that” it is telling them I have hope and faith in the one who loves them. That their choices do not need to be that of a poverty or orphan mindset, but can be because of the love the Father has for them, His child.

Today is a day of being “better than that” in your life. It is a reminder that we have the goodness of God in our lives and our choices can be that of a king!
