My Brother, The Runner – Boston Marathon 2014

Today my brother completed his second marathon. This was the Boston Marathon 2014. I am extremely proud of my little brother David!

His time 5:43:42.

My brother suffered from Viral Myocarditis in 2011. He recovered and was totally healed in a church service in my home fellowship. He subsequently had surgery for a shoulder injury and then a knee that needed healing. He has beat those all. And he decided to run!davidjohndrow3Today he ran even while now battling cancer.

Wow!

I was thinking today that I never “liked” golf until Tiger Woods came along. (I have since “left” it.) And I never paid attention to the Boston Marathon other than the Rosie Ruiz debacle in 1980.

But then last year changed all that. The Boston Marathon explosion. Terrorism. Lives were changed. One of those was a young woman named Adrianne Haslet-Davis. A relative of some of my wonderful friends. I had been friends with the Rodmans for years. Their daughter Elizabeth, married Timothy Haslet. His sister Adrianne was one of those injured in last year’s explosion. I saw the Boston Marathon tragedy envelope her with the loss of a lower leg. This year the family of Adrianne Haslet-Davis “helped” her run the race. Her twin brothers Tim and David ran for her right up to the last mile where she joined them.

And then my brother David, thought “wow, I can’t dance, but I guess I can run” and decided to enter as well.

To my brother David, Adrianne and her brothers, and to all the others who ran to change the world

God bless you!
