Each day we awake we are given a choice. What we will do with that choice often determines the quality of our life, our relationships and our endeavors.
Lately, there is a lot of talk about politics and religion. But not so much about the Kingdom.
As I entered the large Christmas store, I was excited. I had my decorated bag in my hands. It had my stuff in there. Things I had brought. Nothing fancy or extravagant, but they were mine. They were things I carried. As I walked into the store I was ready for the beauty of Christmas. I opened the door and there were large empty shelves. It looked like there had been something there, but nothing to make me say “wow, I am here”. I was actually a little bit bummed I think. As I passed some of the shelves there were the helpers, the elves and I thought “this is weird. Where was the joy?” They looked down at the bag in my hand and while I thought they might ask to hold it, they did not. Continue reading I Can Because I Want To!→
Something evil lurked under that mess in the middle. There was no smell, no odor, but there was a sense of “death”. It was like a seaweed. On top of the pile lay two birds that looked like pheasants. Around there neck were gold rings. This was a swimming pool. There were two “shallow ends” and over the deeper middle was this area where there was seaweed, the pheasants and something else. Many years ago I thought eradicating a pest with a 5 gallon can of gas and a match would be the way. The destruction was to say the least, a little more than I bargained for!
As I shared the gospel of Jesus this week, I thought, how many times in the past did I bring a “can of gas and match” to remove some thing under the guise of sharing? Continue reading Gasoline And Matches→
Each morning, particularly those that I have to head off to work, I get up and write. It is my quiet time if you will. God is faithful to wake me up at 5:55 these days. No alarm clock is better than the presence of the Lord. (Non-work days I often find myself up even earlier knowing there is a day of unknown goodness and everything is ahead!) But my getting up and such, is a discipline. I know people do not “like” that word discipline, as they consider it a religious word. A word that “robs” the of them of the freedom they believe they were so much intended for. Continue reading A City With No Walls…→
Last night was one of my more “unusual” dream nights. As I awoke around three, one of my dreams had been simultaneous with a second dream. It was if I was watching two programs on different TV’s at opposite ends of the building. Not just two dreams, but I was not even in the same place as each was occurring.
The first dream had to with people who were under siege. They had watched their community slowly give in to a company and its unethical treatment of employees, its surroundings and the community. New signs and stoplights appeared to “regulate” the traffic. New restaurants and stores in keeping with the people of the workplace, but out of touch with the average citizen. Roads began to deteriorate with the traffic in and out. At first it was guards but not too long after it was security walking the streets. There was talk of a new “police” force. The last few days I have watched this recurring vision. A vision of a treadmill. Now many people use treadmills. A treadmill is great for walking or running when it is cold outside. But the reality of it is, it is nothing like being outside walking. And where do you go? Where do you end up?
I should say in advance I am not a big treadmill fan. There is nothing wrong with them, they just aren’t me. I am an outside kind of guy. I like walking along rivers and through the woods. Continue reading You Can Get Off Anytime→
Before the critics run after me over the use of the word religion, let me bring clarity to the word itself. First James talks about “pure religion” in James 1:27. “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” So, with that said, I believe there is a religion that adds value.
When many of my friends talk about the religious or religion or religiosity we are describing the actions that bring business and not relationship. The following of rules without the knowledge of One who cares for them. Continue reading Time To Stop The Religion Train→
Many years ago I lived in the community of Springfield. It was a fluke that triggered me to find this. The booklet was found and allowed to be copied by the library staff and faithfully transcribed by my wife , Tina.

As Paul Revere rode on the Midnight Ride to warn people of the coming British, despite popular folklore, he did not say the “The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!” but in fact actually said, “The regulars are coming!” (Or perhaps the skittish.”) Continue reading The Skittish Are Coming! The Skittish Are Coming!→
