Family-Not Always Easy But Always Worth It!

Today is a pretty typical weekend in my life. Grandchildren laying around various floors on sleeping bags and bags of clothes and such piled high in corners. Before the weekend is over I will see other grandchildren, some of their friends and many of my children. The weekend with grandkids will include swimming, walking, games, some B&W TV and of course food! There will be the “normal” weekend things as well of getting to our church fellowship on time, where a whole ‘nother set of family is. One of the things I have learned about family is everyone is different. There may be things to tie them together but at the end of the day they are unique and to have a viable family our approach varies towards each varies. I can not engage one of my daughters the same way I might engage one of my sons.

God is like that too. He loves us but He knows we are different. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it. That word “way” means “bent” or “leaning towards”. It is not talking about sin, but is in fact talking about the way God uniquely makes a person! Some might tend towards the arts while other others towards the numbers. To not recognize this is the beginning of covering a child’s identity, his “gold” to be covered with rocks of condemnation and misgivings. To cause the very thumbprint of God, the identity He bestowed on one to be stolen.

As we grow older we look around and see there is the tendency to do this in the church. To preach like another, or serve in the same way or sing the same way. (Now I believe all can “preach” and all are called to serve and all to sing, BUT how they do that can vary from person to person and that is how God created us!

As I look around my family I see the similarities, but I recognize the differences as well. It is the same with the church family I walk with. Each one different, each one a treasure.

Tomorrow I will spend time with my church family. It will be an awesome time. Why? Because each one is so different and yet each one is so God. I love my church family and the gathering of people we have. The people of God walking in the supernatural realms that the world can only dream about.

As you look around you begin to see the treasures God has put in your life. Recognize the gifts that God has made and allowed you to be with.

Family is a sign of the prophetic message. Be encouraged and comforted in friends and family. Allow them to cause you to go higher and bigger in the things of God. Let the building blocks of His varied goodness form in your life and make for you do great and wondrous things. The people are waiting. The school children need you. The workers need you. The government needs you. The church needs you. And your family needs you.

Even as I write this I see a dad sitting on the bed in a motel room, estranged from his wife and children. It is is time to go back. I see the young woman seated in a chair as she contemplates the abortion. God loves you! I see the teacher who has had her heart broken by the pain she has seen. Today God is looking to bring comfort.

Family is not always easy but I assure you family is always worth it!
