Reaching Out Into The Darkness

You never know the impact.
You never know the impact.

Today while driving into work I was thinking that if I disappeared, would people know. Would I be missed? How long would it take?

I remember many years ago I was challenged with the imprisonment of a pastor who was in jail in China for “crimes against the state”. Daily people were reaching out in prayer. And one day, some 20 years later, he was released.

Hundreds if not thousands appeared to welcome him. This group of people had met daily to pray for his release. Daily! What is even more important is no one had seen him for all those years. I remember thinking at that time, how many just disconnect, losing touch after weeks, months and at best, years. Please hear me this is not a condemnation thing. It is an observation. (And I have done it. “Out of sight, out of mind.” It is not healthy.) Continue reading Reaching Out Into The Darkness

This License Set You Free

leejohndrowteamI found myself having another technology dream last night. (For those who want to hear from God, we often hear where we are at as opposed to where we could be…) In the dream I was dealing with a client over his “Microsoft Licensing”. Now in the real world of tech, this is perhaps one of the greatest “jungles” I encounter on a daily basis. Make a mistake in business and it can cost you $5,000 per incident, plus possible jail. And it is “convoluted” on a certain level with lots of rules. But that aside, in my dream the client was facing a software audit. (Like an IRS audit, it determines compliance and such.) My client was concerned. Continue reading This License Set You Free

My Value Is Found In His Love For Me

Prepared Not UnpreparedThis morning while in prayer I thought of my value. What is it that makes up my value? Or yours?

I had had a dream in the early hours of the night. In the dream the people were pouring a foundation for a home. They had dug out the hole, squared up everything and then were preparing for the pour. I came along and I said “where are your form boards?” The boards that are put in place with sides of plywood or special plastic panels. You would have thought I threatened their lives. They flipped out. Yelling and screaming at me they proceeded to tell me they knew what they were doing. For me, it was clear to see they did not. My effort to save them trouble and despair went unheeded. Continue reading My Value Is Found In His Love For Me

Eat The Fruit Of The Spirit

baptizedThe other day while taking in the beginning of the fall colors and the warmth of the day the Lord began to speak to me about the fruit of the spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

There was a period of many years where I would “work” hard to exhibit that fruit. And then I realized it was the fruit of the spirit…not me. I did not see apple trees working hard to “squeeze” out their fruit, so why was I trying. I had not yet wrapped my mind about grace and rest, but I think the plane was circling the field.

1 Corinthians 3:7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

So how, where does fruit come from? What is the need?

Psalm 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

A man must be planted in the soil by water, receiving from the sun(Son). If we are people of the light(sun) we must remain where there is light. We must drink from the river of God. It is in remaining planted that fruit has a chance.

Revelation 22:1-5 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

This is heaven we are seeing in the scriptures and there is fruit! (And no tree of good and evil. How does the tree of life stand on both sides?) And we are people who are called to bring heaven to earth. We are trees of righteousness. (Isaiah 61:1-4) People will “eat” from us. We will be rebuilders of broken cities. Carriers of light.

In Galatians 5:21 it talks about people who “practice” the previous sins, so there must be a practice of the fruits of the spirit. There also must be a willingness to eat of the fruit of the Spirit. Will you eat love? Peace? Joy?

And while you could have had a V8(Eight vegetable juice) you can have a Spirit9. 9 fruits of the the Spirit. And while an apple a day might keep a doctor a way, eating of the Spirit’s fruit, will keep darkness away and usher in His presence.

Are you showing signs of unhappiness? Begin to feast on His joy!  feeling ornery? Feast on His kindness. Out of sorts? eat of His goodness.

Feast on the fruit of the Spirit, that you might manifest His goodness in the earth.

Have you visited the question of the day?

Letting Go And Letting God

Mom in December 1998

Grace Happens. Let Go And Let God. First Things First. Live And Let Live.

My Mom had found Al Anon and those bumper stickers began to appear everywhere in our home. Most notably the refrigerator. And frankly I did not understand them so much as I was thinking I should. Especially that one that said “Let go and let God”. What does that mean? I heard a lot of people tell me what they thought it meant. And that one upset me. In part because my relationship with God was non-existent. (Being told God can’t help you by a well meaning minister when it came to drugs, caused me to walk away from anything “God related”. So my mom’s new found “love’ was getting to me.) Continue reading Letting Go And Letting God

Mundanity – You Don’t Have To Live There!

What if...
What if…

Too often in our lives we encounter mundanity. We begin something and it it lasts longer than we had anticipated. Or perhaps circumstances in our life have changed causing the need for the existence to last but a little longer. Continue reading Mundanity – You Don’t Have To Live There!

Have You Thought This Out?

leejohndrowteamI think one of the biggest questions in the kingdom ought be this when it comes to the idea of questionable or unusual behavior. I also think the response to it determines what is really going on.

Have you thought this out?

I am finding in the midst of an increased understanding of grace an increase of resentment and rejection of correction. I say this is not a response to religion but a revealed immaturity. Continue reading Have You Thought This Out?

Community Changers Arise!

leejohndrowteamYesterday as I went for a walk with my grandchildren, I realized I had “missed” something over the summer. Probably it was simply the summer! But as I walked down a path with them and looked at the river, the foliage and even the path, I saw two things. The power of God and His people.

I asked myself what changes a region or a community for the better. Clearly there were the two pieces I envisioned. One was people. The other was God. As I walked I saw the changes. Some good. Some not so good. How do we make it better? I personally believe that His people change a community for the better. Not just the “good” people but the people who release God into a community. Gasoline And Matches

Fire, forward, fast
Fire, forward, fast

Many years ago I thought eradicating a pest with a 5 gallon can of gas and a match would be the way. The destruction was to say the least, a little more than I bargained for!

As I shared the gospel of Jesus this week, I thought, how many times in the past did I bring a “can of gas and match” to remove some thing under the guise of sharing? Continue reading Gasoline And Matches

In The Garden There Is Fruit

leejohndrowteamIn the middle of the night I awoke from a dream. In the dream a person was wandering around, unable to connect with any one. They would move from one person to another. Sometimes for a moment and sometimes for longer. As I lay in the darkness and thought about it I began to realize something. It had to do with the topic of value. Value of one’s self and value of others.

Only yesterday I spent time with someone trying to explain their “lifestyle” was becoming problematic to their relationships. Not so sure they bought it. Why? Because they were right. It is easier to “move on” than it is to “stay in”. Continue reading In The Garden There Is Fruit
