They Embraced A Mouse!

mustangI woke up for the second time and I heard “8 track player for sale.” Uhhh… 8 track? I don’t know about you but that technology is about 50 years old. (Actually older but it became popular about 50 years ago.) And I thought about it.

What I realized is many people in the kingdom are relying on “old technology” to get new results. They bought an “8 track” when they got saved and never thought to upgrade. Now before you choose to egg my home or something, I am not saying the Bible or Jesus is outdated. In fact if you only open a Bible once, it has the ability to rock your world. But if you live the life you learned about 50 years ago and never seek revelation, you will suffer. You can still love or be longsuffering, but there is a lot of newness on the word of God and His instruction He would like to share with you.

Jesus did not appear to give many a new way to think or even something to think about. No, He challenged them to think about what they already knew and what they might consider thinking about it. He did not tell them what to think but encouraged them to be in the “how to think” place.

And that is disappointing for some. How do I know? I get letters telling me my articles are too long. That they should be numbered. I get it. One time I tried to do “4 steps to something” and I heard people making a rule of sorts. Yep. I won’t be doing that. Sometimes I get that a little. (10 things about 2014 was one of those.) But either way, I hope you think.

Jesus wants you to “think about it”. I am okay with snippets and nuggets. Really I am. But not if you just take a scripture and throw it on your refrigerator door or screen saver and never do anything with it. Because two things happen. One is you think you got it. And the other is it becomes a law. Its like food you want to eat but “it looks so pretty” you can not force yourself to do it.

Life ought to be like food it one sense. It ought to be enjoyed. Sometimes life goes too fast and we forget to taste the “food”. I will sometimes sit there, chewing up food and just let it set there to see how many flavors or textures I can pull out of it. I love “guessing” what is in something. Life ought to be like that. For instance, “love is patient”. Ever see that on a monitor screen or a plaque? What does that mean to you? How does that change you? Does it become a law or an untouchable? Why? Why would God have that for you if it was not attainable? And then you get the cop outs. “Well, I am just not like you. (Sigh of relief from the multitudes!) I am only human.(LIE!)I try. (Stop trying and start being.)God provided for you. Think about that. Put it in your life-not on the fridge!

The first time I woke I was thinking about Walt Disney. So creative. The man dreamed and made it happen. A man and a mouse. I will tell you there is another guy like that quickly moving on the scene. He is described as a “mad composer”. His name is Glenn Beck. (If you are interested check out this article on him.)

It is funny as we look at a man like Disney or Beck and we think “wow, the creativity”. I agree. But who is the creator of creativity? Is it not God? Because if we agree it is then we have to agree He has sown that into each of us. Is that no something to think about?

And I think that is where the 8 track comes in. Traditional or previous thinking can be improved upon. The 8 track succumbed to newer technology. (Smaller is better for technology not so much for looking at the pictures of the bands!)That is what I mean when I say Jesus did not so much tell us what to think but how to think.

Take a scripture. Take your favorite scripture and devote some time to thinking about it afresh. What if does not mean what you thought? What if it does? If this is true what happens to the rest of my theology? Jesus IS perfect theology. Trust Him.

I get that I am an inventive thinker, an innovator and an instigator. Even at work, I challenge the norm. My bosses know it. My co-workers know it. I am still the little kid saying “Why? Why do we do it that way?” But you have to make a way to gain that influence. Just being an instigator without love or relationship…just rude.

What do I see? First, let me tell you what I don’t like and won’t embrace.I do not like cars that all look the same. Give me some style. Give me some wings. But please do not give me a car that looks like the other top 10 and comes in the same 5 colors with an annual ugly color. Give me the ability to drive down the road and at a mile away know who manufactured that car!(Okay three times I have gone to type “give” and ended up with “gove”. That is a rick for hay, so maybe it is for someone!)

I have said it before and it gets more and more real. Free electricity. Free energy. Flying cars. Roads that remove their own snow, their own ice. Peace, harmony and love. Maturity on the incline and foolishness on the decline.

Why not? They embraced a mouse!

Make a decision to get kids to think. How about you begin to think? No more technology because “we can” but education and understanding because we want to!!! (Great…you got a new phone but you walked into a fountain!)

HOMEWORK-WHAT???
