Giving Up On Life – Let Me Off!

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

Have you stopped moving ahead? Have you pulled the “vehicle” to the side to let the “faster, younger, informed” ones pull by? Have you given up because it is too hard, too far, too much or too high? Have you confessed your last confession, declared your last declaration and prayed your last prayer because of fear, hurt or pain are causing you to stop? You might be in better company than you think.

I have noticed a lot of people who have said “I cannot do this ANYMORE!” Children, grandchildren, parents, jobs, friends have just become too much. “I want off this train. Out of this world. Stop the bus!” Many have read the book (The Bible) saw the last chapter and said “we win.” And then thrown it out into the future for “when they get home.” But what about now? Today? It says “we win” today…tomorrow and the next day. How? We change the earth. We cause it to look like heaven. Continue reading Giving Up On Life – Let Me Off!

A Microphone, A Basket & An Old School August 19th 2013

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

Yesterday my wife came to me during our fellowship service and she had seen three items. She saw a woven basket, a microphone and an old school. Before she came over to me she looked up the words “old school” and she found that part of the descriptive is “form lacking substance.”

Let me start with the old school. We do not need more of the same. The “same” may have had value, may have had a season of awesomeness, but the idea that something without substance will carry us forward is not correct. Continue reading A Microphone, A Basket & An Old School August 19th 2013

The Woman Who Wanted – Constraining The Prophet

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

Yesterday I wrote of the widow Elisha went to, her two sons and the story of the vessels being filled. This is the story of the woman (2 Kings 4:8) who wanted and went to Elisha. This woman was well of, married. She lived in Shunem, a place meaning “uneven.” Previous mentions in scripture indicate this was under the allotment given to the tribe of Issachar. It is also the site of the gathering of the Philistine army against Saul, where he was so frightened he turned to the witch of Endor. It was a farming community through which Elisha passed often. There is a divine “yes” here as the Lord shows you the “have” and the “have not”, the barren and the fruitful, one gave-one received, the married and the widow.

Why is this background important one might ask. The Bible is laden with hidden truths, layers of revelations. Think about it. Not a woman of need, but barren, having no children. Come on! If this was not a set up for God, in a place of unevenness, I do not know what is.  A place where the “sons of Issachar” A place where the “sons of Issachar” (Their name means “there is recompense.” Wow!) had been given their reward. The same tribe that God said “And of the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their kinsmen were at their command.” 1 Chronicles 12:32 (By the way did you see that “all their kinsmen” statement? Huge!) A place that fear had struck. Continue reading The Woman Who Wanted – Constraining The Prophet

Empty Chairs – An Opportunity For Blessing

empty chairsThis morning I woke, coming out to the living room and sat here for a moment. A quick rehash of what might be accomplished today was on my radar screen.   And then I looked at the floor. Four very empty children’s chairs. A part of me sees the prophetic in the picture. That if you “build” it they will come. The chairs had been moved from our destroyed home in Springfield. My wife and I had cleaned them up and put them on the floor. The first thing my grandchildren did upon arriving last night was go to sit in them excitedly.

There is something about the preparation for a child or children that excites me. These four empty chairs and a table suggested my love for them, hospitality towards them. I never look at those chairs or the pictures of my children without thinking of my love for them. Without uttering a prayer. (There is a large piece here for people. Do children feel welcome?)

Emptiness is a target for the love of the Lord. Do you feel empty? God can fill you up. Continue reading Empty Chairs – An Opportunity For Blessing

When In Rome Do As The Romans Do – When In Heaven…

A Word To Hear
A Word To Hear

At 3AM I heard this statement, “When in Rome do as the Romans do. When in heaven do as the heavenly do.” Wow! Where are you seated? And even as I say it out loud, I wonder is there something to “do as the heavenly dew.”

I am a word person. Not just from a biblical or faith perspective, but from a “what does it mean” perspective. Words have meaning and they have power. It is not about semantics (Now there is a Greek word. It deals with understanding based on historical or psychological emphasis.) but more importantly, the reality, getting the full flavor out of a word or it’s understanding. The Need For A Good Atmosphere

Just a thought?
Just a thought?

Too often we walk into a circumstance or situation and we can tell that something is off. It is at that point we get to make the determination will we accept it or reject it. My experience is that many people just get comfortable with the feeling that has been revealed to them even when it is negative. This is fine if the atmosphere you are walking in is a good one. The difficulty is when we encounter an atmosphere that is off or even demonic in nature and we accept it.

When it comes to changing atmosphere, it ultimately comes down to you and your belief of who God is within your life. If you believe you are always under circumstances and not above circumstances you will operate from that mentality. (Ephesians 1:20-23) My hope here is to encourage you to change the atmosphere. Playing Games – Too Often What We See Is Like Playing A Game

Just a thought?
Just a thought?

This morning as I thought about our local church fellowship I reflected on many of the church fellowships that I have attended over the years. The majority of the church fellowships that I have been involved in including one that I pastored for 15 years often looked at a need and went to bring reparation to the need. Too often that method has the potential to burn people out. Continue reading Playing Games – Too Often What We See Is Like Playing A Game

Changing Mindsets The Product Of A Mindshift

Just a thought?
Just a thought?

I often find myself coming up against myself. What does that mean? It is those times where I cannot seem to gain headway. The difficulty is I am often sure it is the Lord holding me back. Recently I have felt that way. I have watched all my supports evaporate. The last few weeks has had me wondering. Even when I remove the feelings of the intensity, I see that there is something underlying that I have not plumbed. I do not suggest that the Lord ruined home or finance, but for whatever the reason His intervention was not there. (I do not blame Him, nor am I even frustrated as to “why.”) And so I was “up against the wall” in my thinking.

And then a conversation. A normal conversation. And a flash. Continue reading Changing Mindsets The Product Of A Mindshift

Getting Caught Up In The Stuff

A Snippet Of Truth
A Snippet Of Truth

I have noticed that many are caught up in the “stuff.” What is the stuff? The stuff is that which affects you and your understanding of biblical principles, seasons of life and the need for legacy.

I feel the need to expound on this at a later date, but provoke your mind at this point in time. Continue reading Getting Caught Up In The Stuff
