Plan A – When Nothing Else Will Do

leejohndrowteamThe right connections are so important. Only this morning my computer has decided it no longer likes my modem and refuses to connect meanwhile chasing down other wireless opportunities in my area. How often is our own life like that? We have a connection to make but when it is unavailable, rather than waiting we move to a Plan B?

The problem with the Plan B approach is our impatience at a situation or circumstance. So, we go out to fix it on our own. Abraham did that. He took on Hagar and ended up with Ishmael. He initially chose a Plan B that caused all kinds of problems and may well contribute to our problems today. Continue reading Plan A – When Nothing Else Will Do

The Awkwardness Of An Age

alyssacamera 004Even in the darkness of the camping area there was no fear. Oh, there were the trees that formed shadows and the noises of the night that caused a check in my walk, but it was startling and not fear creating. I knew where I was going and not even in the darkness was I fearful.

I had a pretty interesting dream this morning. It vacillated between the innocence of being a child and the darkness that seemed to await those that wandered off the properties. It reminded me of Batman’s Gotham City, the camp I attended as a child(Keewaydin)and the reminder that while a child’s  life may be awkward it is but a season. The Tension Of Community

preachingatvillageThe pressure of community exists. It causes us to be better or worse. To step out side or to move inside. Whether we talk about the church community or we discuss the actual community we might live in there is a pressure of sorts.

Yesterday I read as a young black rapper opened up on the community of Ferguson. He came down on the side of “what are you doing, what are you thinking”. He chided them for not “policing” their own. With regard to the living condition he said “who is going to take care of if you don’t? If you urinate in the hallway how is that someone else’s fault?” Both rappers Pharrell and BoB were denigrated by their own for their comments and encouragement to take responsibility for their communities. What Is In Your Future?

leejohndrowteamA recent headline got me thinking about my past and my current state. It also revealed to me the hearts of folks.

Most folks are aware of my background pre-Christianity. The stores, the spells, the witchcraft. I can tell you my pathway to darkness of that caliber was not an “over night” thing. It began long before that. The culmination was a witch who became friends with my wife at the time and subsequently with me. Seriously, it was all down hill from there for many a year. Run Lightly!

leejohndrowteamLast night I dreamed that I was running. Running every where. But the challenge truly came when I came upon a section where it was wet, muddy and had large puddles. I do not know about you but when I was a child this kind of meadow was a challenge. Especially in the winter. How many times did the run break through the ice or get me stuck in mud. I learned to “run light” and get across as quickly as possible. Looking behind me I could see where I had been. There is something about running lightly that challenged me then. The dream brought it all back. Continue reading Run Lightly!

The 60’s Are Coming

leejohndrowteamToday we step into December. Last night I had a vision that rocked me on the way home. One of those times that leaves you sitting on the side of the road, wanting to get it all down. Tears, laughter and thoughts of “what happened”.

I was driving through a community I had lived in. I was reminded of some of the cool things I had experienced there. Memories of goodness. My heart wanted to hear “change, restoration” and all I was able to muster was “it was good”. I looked at the old and empty buildings and I thought “what can these offer?” I just thought of the emptiness and the times past. Continue reading The 60’s Are Coming

Stuck In The Mud?

2014-11-29 15.23.20This weekend brought a lot of a lot of fond memories to the forefront. Memories of family. Thanksgivings gone past. A lot of new memories were discovered and made as well. The Christmas tree went up and there was hot chocolate and popcorn, family and friends.

Family always has its own set of challenges as well. Those challenges can range from disagreements and misunderstandings to the hard ones like sickness, death or disaster. But if you are to implement the goodness of God to the children coming up, you will have to learn to hang in there. To not check out when the going gets tough. Continue reading Stuck In The Mud?

Willing To Change

paultimothysilasYesterday while taking a day off, a friend and I connected. We agreed to grab lunch. We have been friends for a long time but with my new job, there are not the times to get together there once was.

We got there and sat down. Our conversation was all over the place and focused. But at one point we began to talk about my writing and my blog.I asked him straight up his thoughts and he provided them. Some I understood, others I had no clue and still others I had to get clarification on. Continue reading Willing To Change

Oh No. They Went…Shopping!

2013-12-20 17.14.38You and I may never agree. In fact, if we do not agree, it simply reminds me of the uniqueness God has placed inside of each of us. Sure I would like you to agree with me, but it is not necessarily the basis of our friendship, fellowship or familyship.

And yet daily each of has the ability to incur the wrath of someone who disagrees. Continue reading Oh No. They Went…Shopping!
